Here's a warm piece I drew on Friday afternoon. I've got a couple of briefs at the moment that are going to need some very detailed type so I thought I'd get into to the swing of things with a freeform bit of fun.

I'm currently branding a client that needs a more cohesive and unique look that we can roll out online and through some new print material. I've been exploring a range of different approaches. One is a logoscript but we've decided a more sober tone is now needed. I created a range of different styled logoscripts for this stage of the project with this one being the most sucessfull. I used a Copic brush pen on cartridge paper, if it was taken on I'd have tackled vector artwork in Illustrator, retaining as much of the texture could. Now I've got to get on with some new ideas!

I just wrapped up this piece of logotyping for a client. Nice smooth process for this one. Got to love it when that happens!

You can't win 'um all. That's what they say anyway. Sometimes for reasons out of your control a project can be canned, redirected, or pulled all together. This piece of custom lettering was for a project that unfortunately got redirected right at the last minute. However, I'm proud of this piece of work and couldn't just let it slip away into the depths of my archive hard drive, never to see the light of day.

After producing a very rough first sketch I jumped to the computer. This is a little out of character for me, I usually much prefer to labour away on a piece by hand as much as possible. For this bit of lettering though I was very clear from the start with what I wanted to do. Once I had the vectors created I copy and pasted all the artwork into Photoshop individually. Then layered up my textures using the vector elements as my masks. All the textures were scans from old book covers and paper and went and found in second hand books shops.

Shambala - The Sham Tram

POSTED BY TOM

30/8/2011

My studio buddy Ged Palmer has been working on the decor crew at Shambala Festival for a few years now and this year we both got involved in creating a San Fransisco tram for the main bar. Our good friend Liam Rush, a set designer for endemol, was tasked with leading the main contruction of the tram. With Ged and I providing creative direction and the main signage.

I've split this post up into two parts. The first section details the progress of the signage we produced, the second part shows the transformation of a pretty standard marquee into a full fledge tram. All the work we did was desinged and produced on site, with what ever materials we could russle up. This I loved, a few minds coming together and thinking on the spot. It was a privilidge to work with such a team. All of which were so welcoming, hard working, and fun. I had a blast!
